1987	A task force was established at the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology before the first HIV case was found in Viet Nam.
1990	The National Commission on AIDS Prevention and Control was established under the Ministry of Health. Minister of Health serves as the Chairman.
1993	The Chairman Committee of the National Program on Drug Prevention and Control was formed and led by the Minister-Chairman of the Commission on Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas. The permanent office is located at the Commission on Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas.
1994	The National Commission on AIDS Prevention and Control under the Government was established in which a Deputy Prime Minister serves as the Chairman and Minister of Health as Vice Chairman. The Department on Social Evils Prevention was formed and located at the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Society.
1998	Under the Prime Minister’s Decision 1122/1997/QĐ-TTg, dated December 24, 1997, the apparatus of the National Commission on AIDS Prevention and Control was consolidated. Under the Prime Minister’s Decision 686/QĐ-TTg, dated August 25, 1997, the National Commission on Drugs Prevention and Control was formed, led by a Deputy Prime Minister and located at the Ministry of Public Security.
6/2000	The National Committee on AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control was set up in line with Decision 61/2000/QĐ-TTg, dated on June 5, 2000.
2000-2007	The assistance team of the National Commission on AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control is located at the Office of Government. The permanent office of the National Commission on AIDS Prevention is located at the Ministry of Health. The permanent office of the National Commission on Drug Prevention is located at the Ministry of Public Security. The permanent office of the National Commission on Prostitution and Drug Detoxification is located at the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Society.
2007	The National Committee on AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control was consolidated in accordance with Decision 50/2007/QĐ-TTg, dated April 12, 2007./.
