More than 26,000 drug addicts join compulsory rehabilitation

VGP – As many as 26,494 drug addicts were forced to join compulsory rehabilitation based on decisions of the courts in the first half of 2019. 

The labor, invalids and social affairs sector will continue completing the policy and legal system on drug and prostitution prevention and control.

The sector launched a number of measures on prevention and control of social evils and enhancement of drug rehabilitation over the recent six months of 2019. 

A total number of 105 public rehabilitation laboratories are treating for 38,441 drug addicts nationwide, including 26,494 compulsory ones and 3,923 volunteering ones. 

4,563 drug addicts have been treated at social centers while 3,461 ones have participated in non-public volunteering rehabilitation programs. 

The sector has provided Methadone treatment for 4,200 drug addicts. 

28 provinces and cities have made rehabilitation plans at households and community while six localities have realized rehabilitation programs at families and households for 4,320 drug users. 

The sector has joined hands with other ministries, agencies and localities to establish and implement prostitution prevention activities through integrating into socio-economic development program as well as pilot models and services supporting prostitutes at community at 20 localities.
