Son La joins hands with VN Fatherland Front to fight drug

VGP – Vice President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Truong Thi Ngoc Anh on December 17 attended and chaired a meeting on exchanging experience with the Viet Nam Fatherland Front in drug prevention and control at community in the northern mountainous province of Son La. 

In the first half of 2019, the functional agencies investigated 12,285 drug-related cases, uncovering 19,454 drug traffickers, 675 kg of heroin and 4,625 kg of methamphetamine. 

Northern border provinces are facing difficulties in socio-economic development and lack of knowledge, which is regarded as favorable environment for drug traffickers. 

Speaking at the event, Anh said that in the upcoming time, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front will coordinate with other organizations and agencies to communicate and support local people to stay away from crimes and create more jobs to improve their livelihoods. 

Policemen in Son La Province on July 18 arrested two men and seized 6,000 pills of synthetic drugs.

On April 17, a suspect was arrested for illegally transporting nearly 6.5 kilograms of heroin in Long Luong commune, Van Ho district.

Two Lao nationals were arrested on suspicion of smuggling 12,000 methamphetamine pills in Moc Chau district, the northern mountainous province of Son La on March 4.

Police in the northern mountainous province of Son La on June 4 arrested a man when he was illegally transporting 20 bricks of heroin (about seven kilograms) in Co Phay hamlet, Tan Lap commune, Moc Chau district.
