40,000 HIV/AIDS carriers receiving ARV treatment through health insurance

VGP – Around 40,000 HIV/AIDS patients are receiving ARV medicine through health insurance, according to the Viet Nam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control, under the Ministry of Health. 

The successful conversion of ARV treatment from foreign aid to health insurance is regarded as a spotlight in the AIDS prevention and control work in 2019. 

HIV/AIDS transmissions in the community tend to decrease, standing at 0.24%. 

In 2019, treatment service has been expanded and diversified to uncover new HIV carriers in line with enhancing the mobilization of the community into HIV/AIDS prevention and control and maintaining and renewing rehabilitation method. 

Besides Methadone treatment, the Ministry of Health has launched piloting Buprenorphin treatment at seven localities. 

As many as 140,000 patients have been treated with ARV with the proportion of compliance rate after 12 months of treatment, reaching 88% and 92% of all people receiving ARV therapy will have viral suppression. 

The National K=K Campaign has been launched to reduce discrimination against HIV/AIDS carriers and improve the local people’s capacity in getting access to HIV/AIDS prevention and control services.
