VGP – 1,805 HIV/AIDS carriers among 2,063 ones have health insurance, accounting for 92.5%, according to Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province’s center for HIV/AIDS prevention and control.

The number of people living with HIV/AIDS not having health insurance made up 7.5% due to HIV/AIDS carriers having health insurance are supported only 20% for treatment expenditures.

Decision No.2188/QĐ-TTg (Decision 2188) of the Prime Minister on payment of antiretroviral (ARV) medicines and support for users of ARVs from the Health Insurance Fund is regarded as a timely solution to tackling the shortage in ARV supply since 2017, ensuring 100% of HIV carriers having health insurance.

As of the end of July 2019, as many as 2,063 HIV/AIDS patients have been treated with ARV.

Director for Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province’s center for HIV/AIDS prevention and control Bui Minh Kha said that the province has received support of the Global Fund to Fight against HIV/AIDS and the VAAC-US.CDC which has been jointly organized by the Viet Nam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. However, the support will not last after 2020.

Since 2019, ARV medicine and testing expenditures for HIV carriers are no longer free. They will be paid through health insurance so patients should fully join health insurance.
