Dien Bien launches new intervention services for HIV/AIDS carriers

VGP – As of June 2019, as many as 7,320 HIV carriers were recorded in the northern province of Dien Bien, including 3,452 alive ones, according to the province’s center for disease control. 

The number of AIDS patients was 5,378 ones, including 1,658 alive ones. 

In the first half of 2019, the province uncovered 42 new HIV carriers, a decrease of 81 ones compared to the same period last year. 

Currently, HIV/AIDS carriers were found at all 10 districts and 120 among 130 communes and wards in the province. 

The proportion of alive HIV carriers under control among the population is 0.59%. 

More than 2,840 patients have been treated with ARV, which is sponsored through health insurance. 

Since May 2019, four provinces of Muong Lay, Muong Ang, Dien Bien Dong and Tua Chua have provided ARV through health insurance. In the first half of 2019, 139 HIV/AIDS patients in the locality purchased health insurance from the local budget. 

The province is home to eight Methadone treatment centers and 34 Methadone distribution laboratories, supplying medicine for 2,568 patients. 

Buprenorphine treatment has been launched at three laboratories for 44 patients.
