Dien Bien needs to launch comprehensive measures in HIV/AIDS fight

VGP – Head of the Viet Nam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control Nguyen Hoang Long suggested the northern province of Dien Bien comprehensively launch prevention and supervision measures as well as enhance ARV treatment for HIV carriers to prevent the transmissions of HIV/AIDS. 

The province was also asked to pilot Methadone treatment at households for patients to reduce expenditures and help drug addicts lead a stable life.

The province has uncovered new HIV carriers among men who have sex with men (MSM), thus it is necessary to promote communication works and accelerate PrEP treatment in this group. 

According to the statistics of the Dien Bien Province’s Center for Disease Control, as of May 31, 2020, as many as 7,444 HIV carriers were recorded, of whom 3,460 alive ones are under control. 

In the first five months of 2020, a total 32 new HIV carriers and 30 deaths were announced in the province. 

At present, 2,420 drug addicts have been treated with Methadone, including 1,173 ones at communes. Meanwhile, 3,005 HIV-infected people have been provided with ARV treatment, making up 86.8%. 

In the first five months of 2020, 5,552 people joined HIV testing.
