Ha Noi, HCM City set targets in controlling HIV infection in community

VGP – The capital city of Ha Noi is striving to control HIV transmissions in the community under 0.3% and mitigate the consequences of HIV on the city’s socio-economic development. 

In 2019, the number of new HIV/AIDS carriers in Ha Noi was estimated at 1,290, a year-on-year increase of 25%. 

As many as 1,362 HIV carriers received treatment, up 24%, while 97.4% of people living with HIV/AIDS maintained ARV treatment. 

A total number of 1,956 HIV carriers were treated with ARV through health insurance while AIDS-caused death toll was low. 

The city forecasts that 2,500 new HIV carriers will be recorded in 2020 while 2,500 HIV carriers will start ARV treatment and 6,500 ones will be treated with Methadone. 

This year, Ho Chi Minh City is targeting to control HIV transmissions in the community under 0.6% and the new HIV infection in the community under 0.03%. 

The city also heads to create a favorable environment for HIV/AIDS treatment, prevent discriminations against HIV/AIDS carriers and strengthen activities to soon reach 90-90-90 Plan.
