More pregnant women in Thanh Hoa, Tay Ninh receive HIV testing

VGP – A total number of 24,699 pregnant women received voluntary HIV testing in the north central province of Thanh Hoa, of whom four were found positive to HIV, according to the province’s disease control center. 

As many as 13 HIV-positive women giving birth have been treated to prevent mother-to-child transmission. 

The prevention of mother-to-child transmission program has been launched in the province since 2013. Currently, 22 outpatient laboratories and 19 communes have provided ARV treatment. 

*As of the end of May 2019, the southern province of Tay Ninh detected 5,143 HIV carriers, including 3,745 ones developing into full AIDS and 1,748 deaths of AIDS. The proportion of pregnant women positive with HIV makes up 5.74%. 

In 2018, the local testing centers provided HIV testing and counseling services for 12,335 pregnant women, including 39 HIV positive ones treated with ARV. 

The proportion of those receiving prevention of mother-to-child transmission has reached 100%. 

The health sector has launched a number of activities promoting the action month on prevention of mother-to-child transmission (from June 1-30, 2019).

During the month, the sector has supplied prevention services for mother-to-child transmission such as HIV testing for pregnant women, provided ARV for HIV-positive women including pregnant ones and promoted intervention and quality of prevention services of mother-to-child transmission.
