Nearly 5,600 alive HIV/AIDS carriers recorded in Quang Ninh

VGP – As many as 5,581 alive HIV carriers were recorded in the northern province of Quang Ninh, of whom 5,425 ones are living in the province

In the first half of 2019, testing center and laboratories in the province launched testing for 35,813 ones, detecting 121 ones positive with HIV. A total number of 29 new-born babies from HIV-infected mother were tested, uncovering one positive with HIV and being treated with ARV. 

The province is the home to six centers that provide medicine for prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission.

In the first quarter of this year, 9,626 pregnant received volunteering HIV testing, finding 28 ones positive with HIV and being treated. 21 new-born babies from mother infected with HIV have been treated. 

At present, more than 160 children positive with HIV/AIDS and 1,500 children affected by HIV/AIDS were recorded. The province has financed VND100,000 per months for tuition fees and VND500,000 per month for nutrition to support children infected or born from mother positive with HIV/AIDS. 

The province has launched a number of programs for children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS such as prevention and treatment for mother and children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS program, purchasing health insurance for children more than six years old infected with HIV and providing free ARV medicine for children positive with HIV/AIDS. 

The health sector has realized HIV treatment for patients at 12 outpatient clinics, including one for children, providing ARV treatment for 4,888 ones, reaching 90.1%, including 4,786 adults and 102 children. 

At present, a total number of 4,671 HIV patients have health insurance, making up 94.4% and 744 ones have been provided with ARV treatment from health insurance.
