Nghe An mobilizes resources for HIV, drug, prostitute prevention

VGP – The inter-disciplinary working group of the National Committee on HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitute prevention and control led by Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quy Vuong held a working session with the central province of Nghe An’s authorities on HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitute prevention and control.  

Methadone treatment reaching 81% of target set by Government 

According to the recent statistics, as many as 6,823 drug addicts have management profiles, a decrease of 78 ones compared to the same period in 2018, presenting at 404 among 480 communes and wards, making up 84.1%. 

Over the first eight months of 2019, functional agencies detected 1,076 drug-related cases and 1,317 drug traffickers, seizing 919.1 kg of drug. 

A total number of 12,112 HIV carriers were recorded in the province, of whom 7,058 ones developed with AIDS and 4,294 ones deaths of AIDS. 

The province is home to 12 Methadone treatment centers and 16 distribution laboratories. As of August 31, 2019, 3,313 drug addicts registered for Methadone treatment while 2,761 ones received treatment, reaching 81% of the target set by the Government. 

The province uncovered 27 prostitution-related cases and 71 prostitutes in eight months. 

Responsibilities of families, community upheld

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Vuong proposed the province communicate the consequences of drug and prostitute and uphold the responsibilities of families and community for drug rehabilitation works, improve the quality of HIV/AIDS treatment and care and closely monitor prostitutes. 

The province suggested the Government and related ministries and agencies provide more equipment and infrastructures to ensure drug rehabilitation works as well as launch specific mechanisms for HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitute prevention and control works for disadvantaged and ethnic people.
