Quang Ngai actively enhance prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission

VGP – Nearly 10,000 pregnant women were supported with HIV testing and counseling in the central province of Quang Ngai in the first half of 2019, of whom two were discovered positive with HIV and received treatment. 

According to the statistics of Quang Ngai Province’s disease control center, more than 63% of pregnant women in the province were provided with HIV testing and counseling in 2018, exceeding the plan set for the province. 

In 2018, five pregnant women infected with HIV were treated. 100% of babies born from mother positive with HIV are not infected with HIV. 

In the Action month launched to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission, the province has launched a number of communications activities, testing and treatment as well as realized prevention models of mother-to-child HIV transmission effectively to reduce HIV transmission among families and community. 

The health sector has launched a number of activities promoting the action month on prevention of mother-to-child transmission (from June 1-30, 2019). 

With the themed “Mother without HIV-Children not transmitted with HIV”, the event aims to reduce the proportion of mother-to-child transmission under 2% by 2020, which was proposed in the national strategy on HIV/AIDS prevention and control till 2020, with a vision to 2030.
