4th ASEAN Seaport Interdiction Task Force Meeting organized in Ha Noi

VGP – ASEAN members have agreed to consolidate fast exchange mechanism of current information through whatsapp, establish a hotline to exchange information and join hands in arrest drug traffickers on sea routes at the fourth ASEAN Seaport Interdiction Task Force Meeting held on September 9 in Ha Noi. 

They also consented to encourage partner countries to organize training courses and share experience and equipment to improve the capacity of controlling drug trafficking on seas routes. 

At an interview with reporters, deputy head of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, under the Ministry of Public Security Chu Van Phu said that Viet Nam’s functional agencies have enhanced information exchange, identify objects and support other nations in investigating large drug trafficking cases, particularly countries sharing border lines and partner nations. 

Senior investigator of the Indonesian National Anti-Narcotics Agency Ade Jun spoke highly of the active role of Viet Nam in coordinating with other ASEAN countries to effectively struggle against drug trafficking. 

He suggested ASEAN nations improve intercom system and joint mechanisms to propose measures to fight against drug traffickers from production to transportation of drug to other countries. 

The ASEAN Seaport Interdiction Task Force (ASITF), an initiative of Indonesia, aims to assist the law enforcement force of ASEAN to promote cooperation and effectively struggle against drug trafficking on sea routes within the local cooperative frameworks. 

The previous three ASITF meetings were held in 2016, 2017 and 2018 in Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, respectively.
