AIDS Prevention Committee, Supreme People's Court enhance coordination work

VGP – A working coordination program between the Supreme People's Court of Viet Nam and the National Committee for AIDS, drug and prostitution prevention and control during the 2020-2025 period was inked in Ha Noi on July 14. 

 

The program aims to strengthen coordination and renovation in leadership between the two agencies as well as contribute to improving the effectiveness of AIDS, drug and prostitution work. 

It targets creating a regular coordination mechanism and uphold the role of permanent agencies under the National Committee for AIDS, drug and prostitution prevention and control and the Supreme People's Court during the process of launching assigned missions. 

Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Chairman of the National Committee for AIDS, drug and prostitution prevention and control said that drug, HIV/AIDS and prostitution works have gained crucial achievements thanks to the sponsor of the international organizations and the participation of the political system and the whole people. 

  

Currently, as many as 200,000 HIV carriers have been recorded in the country, Dam said, adding that more than 60% of new HIV-infected people are relevant to sexual behaviors while statistics show that around 15,000 people are prostitutes. 

The Deputy PM stressed the need of fighting against drug trafficking in line with boosting communications against drug, expecting that the program will make progress in drug, HIV/AIDS and prostitution prevention and control. 

He expressed thanks to the United Nations and other Governments in the world in joining hands with Viet Nam in this work, hoping to receive more support in the time to come.
