Conference on policies, laws on drug, prostitutes, transgender held in Ben Tre

VGP – A conference on policies and laws on drug, prostitutes and transgender was co-organized by the National Assembly's Committee for Social Affairs, Ben Tre Province’s People’s Council and the Research Center for Initiatives in Community Development. 

Participants in the event included Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Social Affairs Dang Thuan Phong, Deputy Secretary of Ben Tre Province’s Party Committee Phan Van Mai and representatives of the Ministries of Public Security, Social, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Institute for Social Development Studies and related ministries, agencies and localities. 

Issues related to illegal use of drug, drug addicts and social evils tend to increase. According to the recent report, as many as 230,000 drug addicts have management profiles nationwide. 

In Ben Tre Province, in the first half of 2019, a total number of 1,780 illegal drug users were recorded, an increase of 40 ones against the same period last year and more than 800 drug addicts have management profiles. 

At the conference, delegates discussed and evaluated the status and proposed measures to effectively launch drug prevention and control works, organize rehabilitation for drug addicts and control drug addicts, referred to social aspects of prostitutes and basic insights about gender identity and sexual orientation and equal marriage law and gender identity law.

The event creates an opportunity for the People’s Councils of localities and State management agencies to share information and knowledge about social issues as well as facilitates localities to report difficulties and obstacles in realizing policies and laws in drug, prostitutes and transgender.
