VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked for renewing rehabilitation work in Viet Nam at a meeting held by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs earlier this week.

Speaking at the event, Dam said that 85-90% of new drug addicts in some provinces are using synthetic drug while medical treatment for this addiction remains absent.

Meanwhile, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung affirmed that in 2021, the Ministry will continue completing the legal policy system and effectively implementing drug rehabilitation work.

The improvement of rehabilitation and treatment for drug addicts, particularly post-rehabilitation at community and families will also be focused on, Dung added.

Currently, the number of drug addicts having management profiles was estimated at 38,409, 30,253 of whom were compulsory ones while 5,181 were volunteer ones.

In addition, 16 private rehabilitation facilities provided treatment for 4,000 ones.

Viet Nam has been recognized as one of the four leading countries in the world regarding HIV/AIDS treatment, alongside the United Kingdom, Germany and Switzerland, with the rate of HIV community infection in the country being kept at below 0.26%.

The country's HIV/AIDS prevention and control program has helped protect about 500,000 people from HIV infection and prevented more than 200,000 AIDS-related deaths.
