VGP – Viet Nam has been listed among the countries with low proportion of HIV transmissions and has been internationally credited as one of the four countries with the best HIV treatment, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said in an interview with the reporter of the Viet Nam Government Portal on Viet Nam’s efforts in the HIV/AIDS fight over the past 30 years.

Since the first HIV case uncovered in Viet Nam, the country has made efforts in joining with the international organizations in this issue and set up the National Steering Committee for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, Dam said.

Viet Nam is among the first two countries issuing the Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and is the first nation in the world launching a sustainable financial mechanism in HIV/AIDS prevention and control as the international sponsor for this work has been reduced, he affirmed.

The Deputy PM highlighted that the nation has implemented health insurance for HIV carriers to enjoy treatment, particularly integrating HIV/AIDS prevention efforts with the community health care programs and discrimination programs.

The country is among the first in the Asia-Pacific selected by the United Nations to launch the 90-90-90 Plan, heading to end AIDS by 2030, Dam said, stressing the need to continue effective implementation of the Party and State’s policies and encourage people to carry out early testing.

The Government leader expressed thanks to the health agencies and organizations for coordinating with the Vietnamese Government and localities in launching community programs and projects to help HIV carriers overcome disadvantaged circumstances and live healthily and purposefully.
