Drug prevention works at border areas enhanced

VGP - The Viet Nam Border Guard Command on June 25 hosted a meeting on struggling against drug crimes at border areas. 

Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quy Vuong and Deputy Minister of Defense Le Chiem co-chaired the event. 

According to a report at the meeting, trans-border drug trafficking is complex and huge, especially Viet Nam-Laos and Viet Nam-Cambodia border lines. 

The border guards has actively directed to closely monitor border lines and areas as well as join hands with other functional agencies to investigate and identify information. 

In the first five months of 2019, the border guards coordinated with relevant agencies to detect 145 cases, arresting 217 criminals, 926.47 kg of drugs of all kinds (36.3 kg of heroin, 874.57 kg of synthetic drug, 35,5000 meth pills and 4.24 kg of opium). 

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Le Chiem asked for enhancing international cooperation, especially joining hands with the Lao and Cambodian functional agencies to struggle against drug from the outside of the border lines to reduce pressures on the border lines between Viet Nam and other neighboring nations.

At the meeting, representatives of police, customs and border guards discussed the drug crimes situations and proposed measures to promote the coordination works between functional agencies and improve the effectiveness of drug prevention works in the time ahead.
