Joint statement on cooperation in drug prevention, control between VN, Laos, Cambodia ratified

VGP - The 18th trilateral/bilateral ministerial meeting on drug control cooperation between Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam officially concluded on September 12. 

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quy Vuong said that the meeting acknowledged efforts and achievements as well as shared concerns over the drug production, trading and trafficking, especially synthetic drug and new psychotropic substances, which requires more suitable measures from the three nations’ functional agencies to struggle against drug crimes. 

Delegates also reviewed the implementation of reached agreements, asserting that drug prevention and control works between these three nations have been promoted and gained a number of practical achievements. 

Cooperative activities in training and exchanging experiences as well as joint mechanisms in fighting against drug between localities sharing the border lines have been maintained and enhanced. 

These outcomes have gradually helped restrain and reduce the complexity of drug situations, contributing to establishing the border lines of peace, friendship and consolidating the traditional friendship between the three nations.  

Delegates consented with cooperative measures and programs for 2020, which is referred in the Minutes of the meeting. 

Accordingly, the three nations will continue giving priority to contents related to sharing information, exchanging experiences, improving the effectiveness of border control measures, patrolling, controlling and making plans for joint attacks on drug crimes on the border areas of these three countries with the aim of building ASEAN of peace, stability, development and drug-free region.  

Vice Chairman of the National Committee on drug prevention and control of Cambodia Chunsovan and Deputy Minister of Public Security of Laos Somvang Thammasith agreed with contents of the report on outcomes of the meeting, expressing their hope that the drug prevention and control works between the three nations will be further accelerated in the time ahead. 

At the ceremony, delegates approved the joint statement and the press announcement of the meeting. Heads of the three delegations signed the Minutes of the bilateral cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos and Viet Nam and Cambodia.
