Large drug trafficking ring from Germany uncovered

36-year-old Le Minh Hung residing in Nam Dinh city was arrested at a local post office where he got a post box sent from Germany containing 20,000 meth pills concealed inside cans of power milk.

To clarify the case, Nam Dinh’s police then arrested Giang Hung Hung, 34, also residing in Nam Dinh city.

Searching the two men’s houses, they detected many relevant documents and objects.

*The same day, police in the northwestern border province of Dien Bien said that local authorities had arrested two people for trafficking drugs.

Ly Thi Chu, born in 1967 and residing in Long Luong 1 village, Muong Phang commune, in Dien Bien district, was caught red-handed at 9.30 am on September 21 with seven bricks of heroin weighing 2.45 kilos and 6,000 methamphetamine pills weighing 588.5 grams.

Police seized the drugs as well as a motorbike and a mobile phone.

From their investigations, they also detained Giang Chu Po, born in 1977 and living in Tia Dinh 2 village, Tia Dinh commune, in Dien Bien Dong district, at midday on the same day.

Chu and Po told police they bought the drugs in the Viet Nam-Laos border area and then trafficked them to other provinces.

Earlier on September 21, police and border guards in the northern mountainous province of Son La arrested two drug dealers in Mai Son district.

At the scene, the forces seized 80 plastic packages containing 15,200 methamphetamine pills, three cell phones, and a scooter, among others.

The arrested are Mua A Nha, born in 1981 and residing in Mai Son’s Phieng Cam commune, and Song A Nu, born in 2001 and residing in Song Ma district’s Muong Sai commune.

These cases are under further investigations.

Viet Nam is one of the countries with strictest penalties against drugs trafficking. Those convicted of possessing or smuggling more than 600 gram of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine face the death penalty.

The production or sale of 100 gram of heroin or 300 gram of any other illegal narcotics is similarly punishable.
