Localities respond to national action month on HIV/AIDS prevention and control

VGP –Kien Giang, Ninh Binh, and Bac Ninh provinces and Ho Chi Minh City have responded to the national action month on HIV/AIDS prevention and control in 2019 (from November 10-December 10), with the theme “joining hands to end AIDS”. 

The national action month on HIV/AIDS prevention and control was held on November 15 in the southern province of Kien Giang. Since the first HIV carrier was detected in 1993, as of October 2019, as many as 5,280 HIV-infected ones were recorded in the province, with 3,470 ones developing full-blown AIDS and 1,570 deaths of HIV/AIDS. 

HIV carriers appear at all wards and communes in the province. Each year, the province uncovers around 300 new HIV carriers. The proportion of HIV transmissions at community is 0.2% while only 1,998 HIV carriers have been treated with ARV, making up 54%. 

In the northern province of Ninh Binh, as of September 15, 2019, a total number of 4,070 HIV carriers were announced, of whom 1,796 are alive and 1,182 develop full-blown AIDS and 1,092 died of AIDS. 

In the first nine months of 2019, 81 new HIV carriers were found in the province, including 24 ones living with AIDS and five deaths of AIDS. 

In Bac Ninh Province, the province organized communications activities with contents related to prevention measures of HIV transmissions, ARV treatment, rights and necessity of health insurance for HIV/AIDS carriers and communications on the Law on HIV/AIDS prevention and control. 

Ho Chi Minh City has mobilized the participation and support of ministries, organizations and people at all levels in struggling against HIV/AIDS to achieve 90-90-90 Plan by 2020, heading to end HIV/AIDS in the city by 2030.
