VGP – The volume of Methamphetamine seized in Viet Nam over the first five months of 2019 set a new record, according to the report of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) presented by Minister To Lam.

The report on drug prevention and control works was announced at the Questions and Answers of the National Assembly on June 4 in Ha Noi.

Accordingly, the drug prevention and control works happened widespread at provinces in the Northwest, particularly at Ta De, Loong Luong and Van Ho in Son La Province.

The MPS has directed local police forces to actively launch plans and measures to struggle against complex activities of drug traffickers and gained a number of positive achievements.

In the first five months of the year, the police force detected more than 10,200 drug-related cases, arrested 11,700 drug traffickers, seized more than 300 kg of heroin, more than 3.27 tons and 437,334 synthetic drug pills and nearly 260 kg of cannabis.

While the number of drug trafficking cases decreased 12.66%, the volume of seized Methamphetamine set a new record.

Remarkably, large trans-national drug trafficking cases involved 278 kg of synthetic drug on February 17 in Ha Tinh Province, 300 kg of Methamphetamine, 895 bricks of heroin and more than one tons of synthetic drug on March 20 and 27 and April 12 in Ho Chi Minh City, 600 kg of Methamphetamine, 100 bricks of heroin and 700 kg of synthetic drug on April 15 and 17 in the central province of Nghe An, 500 kg of ketamin on May 11 in Ho Chi Minh City and 119 kg of cocaine in the southern province of Tien Giang.

Trans-national drug trafficking cases were mainly led by foreigners who joined with other drug traffickers in Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and the Philippines to bring drug from the Triangle area through Laos and Thailand into Viet Nam for consumption in the third nation.

Mr. Lam highlighted that more murder cases were caused by criminals using synthetic drug.
