More than 10,000 new drug addicts recorded each year

VGP – More than 10,000 new drug addicts are recorded every year, said Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) Nguyen Thi Ha at a seminar on drug rehabilitation work held by the Department for Social Evils Prevention, under the MOLISA on June 11. 

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Public Security, as of November 2019, as many as 235,324 drug addicts had management profiles, an increase of 10,215 ones compared to 2018. 

The number of drug addicts saw a rise of more than 10,000 per year while crimes related to illegal drug users tends to increase, affecting social order and safety. 

As of April 30, 2020, 97 public drug rehabilitation facilities and 16 volunteering treatment centers set up by organizations and individuals are operating. A total number of 34,982 drug addicts have been treated at public rehabilitation facilities. 

Thirteen cities and provinces have maintained rehabilitation at households and community for 1,711 ones while 17 localities have launched Methadone treatment for 3,162 ones. 

100% of drug addicts who had undergone rehabilitation, or 23,462, have been managed at community.
