Nearly 7 tons of drug uncovered in nine months

VGP – As many as seven tons of drug of all kinds were seized over the recent nine months of 2019 by functional agencies in charge of drug, according to the Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes (under the Ministry of Public Security). 

A total number of 2.2 tons of drug of all kinds were seized for the whole year 2018. 

90% of drug were transported into Viet Nam through roads from border lines sharing with China, Laos and Cambodia. The rest were brought into Viet Nam by airlines through Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Noi Bai International Airport or harbors such as Hai Phong Port or Ho Chi Minh Port. 

Currently, the Ministry of Public Security is considering amending and supplementing some articles in the Law on drug prevention and control to create legal framework and mobilize more resources to struggle against drug crimes. 

*In the third quarter of 2019, the police force in Ho Chi Minh City detected 382 drug-related cases and 955 drug traffickers, seizing nearly 100 kg of drug of all kinds including 20.9 kg of heroin, 57 kg of synthetic drug, 1.39 kg of cocaine and 16.4 kg of cabanas.
