Nearly 950 kg of drug seized on VN-Laos border lines

VGP – The border force detected 20 drug-related cases and joined hands with other functional agencies to arrest 122 cases and 165 drug traffickers during the peak period on struggling against drug crimes on Viet Nam-Laos border lines from April 15 to July 15. 

As many as 946.44 kg of drug were seized, including 34.97 kg of heroin, 890.3 kg of synthetic drug and 21.17 kg of opium. 

Earlier on April 5, the border force established and launched the plan on fighting against drug crimes on Viet Nam-Laos border lines, focusing on three central provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh. 

A total number of 452 meeting were held, attracting the participation of 28,624 local people to communicate and encourage people not to join drug trafficking, trading and use, not to plant trees containing drug and supporting drug addicts to re-integrate into community. 

* Last week, a Lao national carrying more than 24,000 tablets of synthetic narcotics was recently arrested at the Cha Lo International Border Gate in the central province of Quang Binh, according to the provincial Border Guard High Command.

Xapxavanh Chanthavong, born in 1980, resided in Kaysone Phomvihane City of Laos’ Savannakhet Province. He was identified as a trans-national drug ringleader. 

The suspect said he intended to smuggle the drugs to Viet Nam for sale.

On July 15, border guards detected two suspects who immediately fled into the forest and left behind a black plastic bag containing nearly 9,000 pills. The case is being investigated.

Viet Nam and Laos share a border of nearly 2,340km that runs across 10 Vietnamese provinces, from the northwest to the central region, and 10 Lao provinces in the eastern part.
