Online conference on national responses to HIV/AIDS amid COVID-19 outbreak

VGP – The Viet Nam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control, under the Ministry of Health, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) jointly organized an online conference on the national responses to HIV/AIDS amid the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. 

Representatives of the Centers for Disease Control from 63 localities, non-governmental governments and community organizations participated in the event.

At the conference, delegates exchanged urgent responses of HIV/AIDS prevention and control programs at national, local and community levels during the COVID-19 period as well as the roles of agencies and organizations in maintaining services for the HIV/AIDS fight. 

They also discussed lessons on success and experience in each period to maintain HIV prevention services at each level as well as proposed recommendations for future actions. 

According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, as of September 4, Viet Nam confirmed 1,046 COVID-19 infection cases, including 691 locally-transmitted cases.

A total of 755 patients have been given the all-clear. The virus claimed 35 lives so far.

As of August 18, as many as 210,659 HIV carriers were recorded in Viet Nam, of whom 97,049 developed full-blown AIDS and 98,977 deaths of AIDS were announced.
