VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc called upon police forces to launch different campaigns to combat crimes, especially organized crime, child abuse, crime against law enforcement, economic frauds, and drug crime.

The Government chief made the point on June 25 while attending a conference of the Ministry of Public Security to review operation performance in the first half.

Minister of Public Security To Lam reported that the world and region witnessed complicated situations in the first half especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the January-June period, the ministry focused on building the National Database on Population and launched a campaign to collect weapons and explosive materials which have been held in the community.

Especially, policemen served as the frontline force to early discover and prevent COVID-19 infection cases and ensure security and social order.

In addition, they worked to pull down the number of crimes by 8.4%; discovered 19,720 criminal cases and captured 45,004 criminals.

In the second half, the pandemic has caused negative impacts on the society and economy, posing new requirements for national protection and social security.

PM Phuc lauded the force’s achievements and sacrifice in ensuring security, political stability, as well as COVID-19 control.

The PM tasked the police force to protect security for the 13th National Party Congress, events within the 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship, Viet Nam’s rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 term, and AIPA 41 Chairmanship.
