VGP – The proportion of drug-related cases which were uncovered and handled in 2020 saw a year-on-year increase of 30%, said Minister of Public Security To Lam in reply to a National Assembly delegate’s question about drug crime situations.

Lam cited the statistics of the Ministry of Public Security, saying more than 700 kg of heroin, nearly 4 tons and 2.2 million meth pills were seized.

The Minister said that drug crime flight is facing three challenges.

Firstly, drug supply is big, especially that from overseas sources, he stressed.

In addition, more than 250,000 drug addicts have management profiles but the number of drug addicts who have not gotten access to treatment remains not high.

The Ministry of Public Security is submitting to the National Assembly to amend the Law on drug prevention and control.

Earlier, at a meeting on reviewing the task performance of the Public Security Forces (PSF) over the past month chaired by General To Lam, Politburo Member and Minister of Public Security, the forces announced that they detected 1,775 cases of drug-related crimes with 2,799 people involved as well as 289 cases of violations against regulations on the use and storage of weapons, explosives and combat gears with 459 people involved and many exhibits seized.
