Third national Border Liaison Office consultation held

VGP – The third national Border Liaison Office (BLO) consultation was jointly organized by the Criminal Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and police forces in some localities. 

Since 1999, Viet Nam has set up and operated 19 BLOs at 12 border localities including An Giang, Tay Ninh, Kien Giang, Quang Tri, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Son La, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Lang Son and Quang Ninh. 

The establishment of the BLO is regarded as a crucial information exchange channel which actively supports and effectively improves the trans-border drug trafficking and crimes as well as enhances the cooperative ties between neighboring countries in drug prevention and control. 

In the phase from 2017-2018, the BLO Viet Nam detected 4,532 drug-related cases and 6,232 drug traffickers, seized 1,046 bricks of heroin, 521 kg of heroin, more than 813,016 kg of dried opium, 1,185,301 synthetic drug pills and 4,892 kg of meth.    

Speaking at the event, Deputy head of the Criminal Investigation Department Do Duc Binh said that besides exchanging information and experience, the event has affirmed the Government’s determinations and commitments to expanding and strengthening international cooperation with the UNODC as well as other nations in the region and the world for peace, stability and development.
