Three Ministerial-level meetings on drug prevention to be held next week

VGP – A ministerial-level meeting on the enhancement of effectiveness of trans-national drug prevention and control will be held from September 9-12 in Ha Noi. 

A ministerial-level bilateral meeting on reviewing drug prevention and control works between Viet Nam and Cambodia and the 18th Trilateral Ministerial Meeting among Laos, Viet Nam, Cambodia on drug prevention and controlwill also be held on the same time in Ha Noi. 

Earlier in October 2018, the PM allowed the Ministry of Public Security to host the ASEAN Ministerial-level meeting on Drug matters. A joint statement was issued in the meeting, affirming that ASEAN does not accept the legalization of drug and ASEAN nations will join hands to struggle against drug and drug crimes.   

The 17th ministerial-level meeting on drug prevention and control was organized on December 6 in Vientiane, Laos.

Participants in the event included Lao Deputy Minister of Security Somvang Thammasith, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Quy Vuong and Cambodian Vice President of the national committee on drug prevention and control Chunsovan. 

The event created a good chance for the three countries to review their past cooperation and learn from the experience in the implementation of the trilateral joint statement on drug prevention adopted at the previous meeting, as well as map out orientations and plans for the time ahead. 

Viet Nam’s organization of these events aims to improve the effectiveness of cooperation in fighting against trans-national crimes as well as promoting cooperation within nations in the region to struggle against drug crimes, limit the planting of opium trees and production, trading and transporting all kinds of drug and share enpericnes in rehabilitation works for drug addicts.
