VGP - UNAIDS Country Director in Viet Nam Marie-Odile Emond asserted that, in any positions, she will continue supporting Viet Nam to achieve HIV/AIDS prevention and control goals.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on September 3 hosted a farewell reception for UNAIDS Country Director in Viet Nam Marie-Odile Emond.

At the meeting, Dam congratulated Marie-Odile Emond on successfully fulfilling her tasks in Viet Nam as well as expressed thanks to the UNAIDS and Marie-Odile Emond for actively assisting Viet Nam in HIV/AIDS prevention and control works.

Viet Nam and the UNAIDS joined hands in HIV/AIDS fight through such works as supporting the coordination of HIV/AIDS prevention and control groups of the United Nations and international organizations in Viet Nam, mobilizing funding for Viet Nam and helping Vietnamese agencies develop legal and policy documents in HIV / AIDS prevention.

Especially, the UNAIDS has provided technical assistance for Viet Nam’s agencies in launching new polices and measures in HIV/AIDS prevention and control, heading to achieve the 90-90-90 Plan (90% of people living with HIV will know their HIV status; 90% of people who know their status are on HIV treatment; and 90% of all people on treatment will have undetectable levels of HIV in their body, known as viral suppression).

Earlier in August, the Ministry of Health presented the “For people’s health” insignia to Marie-Odile Emond.

Marie-Odile Emond, who has worked as UNAIDS Country Director in Viet Nam since 2017, has helped strengthen national coordination in mobilizing and optimizing the use of resources for the country’s HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution prevention and control.

She also called for assistance to Viet Nam in building legal documents and policies in the field.
