U=U Campaign launched in Thai Nguyen

VGP – The Viet Nam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC), under the Ministry of Health joined hands with Thai Nguyen Province’s Department of Health to launch the  Undetectable=Untransmittable or U=U (K=K) Campaign on December 11. 

Participants in the event included Deputy Head of the VAAC Pham Duc Manh and representatives of domestic and international organizations.

The U=U Campaign aims to increase the awareness of ARV treatment for people living with HIV, high risk groups affected or transmitted with HIV, community-based organizations and health staffs. 

The Campaign also helps high-risk people to soon test for HIV, new HIV carriers to get access to treatment services and especially reduces discriminations against HIV/AIDS carriers. 

Currently, as many as 140,000 patients have been treated with ARV nationwide. The U=U Campaign has been carried out at 11 localities. 

According to the statistics of the province’s disease control center, as of September 30, 2019, a total number of 6,800 alive HIV carriers were recorded. 

5,334 HIV carriers have management profiles and 3,893 ones have been treated with ARV. The proportion of HIV transmissions among those aged from 25-49 reaches 83%. The proportion of HIV transmissions through blood attains 63%.
