VGP – Viet Nam is one of the leading nations in the region optimizing HIV/AIDS treatment therapy as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), said US Agency for International Development (USAID) Viet Nam Deputy Mission Director Craig Hart at a workshop on optimization of HIV/AIDS treatment therapy.

The event, held by the Viet Nam Administration for HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) and other related agencies, aims to update recommendations of the WHO on ARV treatment for HIV carriers and the supply of ARV in the world in general and Viet Nam in particular.

Viet Nam has announced that 95% of all people receiving ARV therapy have viral suppression and reduce the risks of HIV transmissions, asserted Craig Hart.

Speaking at the workshop, deputy head of the VAAC Phan Thi Thu Huong highlighted achievements in HIV/AIDS prevention and control over recent years, particularly nearly 140,000 HIV/AIDS carriers receiving ARV treatment, which are mainly attributed to efforts of the VAAC and the international organizations’ supports for Viet Nam.

Support programs have helped patients enjoy best services, reduced the deaths of AIDS and improved health for patients, she added.
