VGP – Viet Nam has been listed among top four nations (including Germany, Switzerland and the UK) with the best HIV/AIDS treatment services, said Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long at the 18th session of the National Assembly’s Committee of Social Issues on September 28.

In Viet Nam, 96% of all people on ARV treatment have undetectable levels of HIV in their body, known as viral suppression, Long, said, adding that it has helped reduce the transmission of HIV into the community.

Over the recent decade, Viet Nam has continuously lessened the numbers of new HIV carriers, the HIV carriers developing full-blown AIDS and deaths of HIV/AIDS.

The nation has controlled the proportion of HIV transmissions in the community under 0.3%.

According to the statistics of the UNAIDS, since 2000, around 400,000 people have been prevented from being infected with HIV and 150,000 have been saved from AIDS.

Besides achievements in HIV/AIDS prevention and control works, Long referred to shortcomings and obstacles in the works, including unspecific regulations on rights for getting access to information relevant to HIV carriers.

The draft Law on amending and supplementing to some articles of Law on HIV/AIDS prevention and control should add the list of people allowed to access to information related to HIV carriers to ensure the benefits of HIV-infected people in treatment and prevent the risk of HIV transmission.
