DPM asks for closely controlling exports, imports of addictive substances

VGP – The Government Office has issued Document No. 10390/VPCP-QHQT sending to the Ministries of Public Security, Finance, Planning and Investment and Health to convey the directions of Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh on improving the effectiveness of the fight against trans-national drug crimes. 

Accordingly, the Ministry of Public Security is tasked to join hands with the Ministries of Industry and Trade and Finance to review, inspect and closely control exports and imports of addictive substances into Viet Nam, monitor import license of enterprises and coordinate with relevant agencies to consider measures to control caffeine and other substances which may be used to produce synthetic drug. 

The Ministry of Health is assigned to supervise the operation of retail pharmacies. 

Earlier on September 10, 2019, the ministerial meeting on enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation in fighting transnational drug crime was held in Ha Noi at the initiative of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security. 

It attracted nearly 200 delegates from Cambodia, Laos, China, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Viet Nam, the US’ Drug Enforcement Administration, the Australian Federal Police, and the Regional Office of Southeast Asia and the Pacific of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

In their joint statement, the participants affirmed that they will boost bilateral, regional and international cooperation in the work by sharing information, maintaining and expanding projects and programmes, providing technical assistance, and building capacity so as to deal with regional and global drug matters in a more effective manner.

The countries and organizations will also consider launching crackdowns on drug crime and coordinate with each other to fight transnational drug rings in the countries in order to prevent drug crime in Southeast Asia and the drug market from growing in the world, according to the statement.
