More than 5,000 prostitutes provided social assistance

VGP – A total number of 5,032 prostitutes were provided with social assistance services in terms of health care, HIV prevention and control, legal assistance, vocational training, job creation and loans for production in 2017, according to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA). 

According to the statistics of provinces and cities, 36 localities launched a pilot prostitution prevention and control model, helping 777 prostitutes and 2,535 high-risked ones enjoy benefits from the model. 

The MOLISA directed the cities and provinces’ Departments of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to realize activities to mitigate transmissions of  social diseases and HIV/AIDS and assist prostitutes to integrate into community as well as supplied technical and financial assistances and supervision works at Can Tho City, Thua Thien Hue Province, Ho Chi Minh City, Tuyen Quang Province and Quang Ninh Province. 

The MOLISA cooperated with non-governmental organizations to organize a seminar to evaluate the outcomes and establishment of supervision frameworks to ensure rights for workers. 

Among 5,032 prostitutes provided with social assistance, 2,104 ones gained assistance in terms of health care and HIV prevention and control, 2,799 ones receiving legal assistance services, 38 ones provided with vocational training and 91 ones getting loans of VND436 million for production and manufacturing.
