VGP - The UN Women in Viet Nam and the Asia Development Bank (ADB) in Viet Nam on December 6 held a workshop on promoting gender responsive budgeting in Viet Nam.

Over the recent years, Viet Nam has gained achievements in gender equality, including improving laws and the national system on gender equality.

Speaking the event, UN Women’s Head of Office in Viet Nam Elisa Fernandez highlighted Viet Nam’s Law on State Budget 2015, which affirmed the country’s commitment to gender equality through State budget spending.

She urged Viet Nam to design specific guidelines for the work, including raising public awareness and building coordination mechanism between financial, planning agencies and other parties.

The ADB has introduced gender responsive budgeting in Viet Nam through a program to improve public spending in Viet Nam from 2014, said ADB Senior Economist Aaron Batten.

At the workshop, participants sought measures to build effective tools in promoting gender equality and share experience of some countries in implementing gender responsive budgeting, and discussing Viet Nam’s initiatives in the work.
